After the Flood

In May 2015, the Arve River, which originates from the glaciers of Mont-Blanc, surged way beyond its banks, leaving a trail of devastation. A few weeks later, I ventured to the Chamonix Valley and what unfolded before my eyes were tiny plants emerging from piles of driftwood. To frame this delicate subject, I deliberately employed a very limited depth of field, reminiscent of Japanese bokeh painting, which emphasizes the fragility of this emerging flora. These nascent shoots represent a resilient response to the recent flood, reminding us that despite the challenges, life always finds a way to prevail. Bathed in the beginning of summer sun, the refreshing energy of this delicate vegetation imparts an atmosphere of optimism and hope to a room. Hanging several photographs in a space establishes a visual connection between various plant compositions.
